Laser cut plywood, 1/6th scale
These study models depict the first conceptual pass at developing a system of modular components, capable of being cut on a CNC machine, which employ the spirit of Japanese joinery to make furniture.
These are a few examples of benches or shelves, which you could make with the system. Even at a 1/6th scale, they are strong enough to support your full body weight, so it’s safe to say the structural goals are met.
This is more of a proof of concept for structural, conceptual, and functional possibilities, than it is an aesthetic or formal representation of what I am working towards.
Over the course of the next few posts we will see what configurations become possible, such as extensions, direction changes, seating modules, and so on.
