The Ethan Chair

Forty five man hours went in to creating my finest furniture piece to date. I sought to design and build a rocking chair that looks nothing quite like anyone’s ever seen before, while being built entirely of recycled/ salvaged lumber.

Meet: The Ethan Chair. Named for my woodworking partner who introduced me to the hobby, the piece fittingly challenged me as a designer and a woodworker greatly. I learned from the experience and improved my craft significantly.

It was important to me that the chair was built entirely of salvaged lumber, which consequently led to aesthetic and structural sacrifices, but those which give the piece character and notable charm. Visual seams of the board’s laminations are celebrated along the arcs of the legs, not hidden.

Striking in style, abstracted in form, and bold in structure, The Ethan Chair is a one of a kind furniture piece to appreciate practically or digitally.
